Confidentiality & Privacy Policy

The law protects the relationship between a client and a psychotherapist, and information cannot be disclosed without written permission.

Exceptions to this include the following:

  • Suspected child abuse or neglect, or dependant adult or elder abuse or neglect. We are required by law to immediately report to the proper authorities any known instance of such activity.
  • If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person/s, we must notify the police and inform the intended victim.
  • If a client intends to harm himself or herself, your therapist will make every effort to enlist their cooperation in insuring their safety. If a client fails to cooperate, the therapist will take whatever actions necessary by law, even without the client's consent, to protect and ensure the client's safety and welfare.
  • We will always do our utmost to protect the confidentiality of our clients. However, the involvement of insurance companies requires us to share private and very personal information that we would otherwise prefer not to release. We understand that using insurance benefits is important and allows some people to be able to get the help they need. But we are committed to always keeping our clients well-informed. We suggest you carefully read Dr. Browning's clarifications of the risks of using health insurrance as part of your therapy- see the tab labeled  "Using Your Insurance". This will help you decide which method of payment is best for you.
